Letter to Parents

Dear Premont ISD Parents and Guardians:

On behalf of the Premont Independent School District Board of Trustees, thank you for your overwhelming support in helping pass the May 6, 2017 bond election.  Over 64% of Premont Independent School District (PISD) voters said YES to better PISD academic and athletic facilities.  Currently, the State of Texas provides no options to fund capital improvements for public schools than through bond elections.  Furthermore, communities that invest in their children prosper.

I deeply appreciate your support and trust you place in our schools.  We are embarking, setting sail to become a Flagship district striving to become one of the most effective, high performing school districts in Texas.  Because of the efforts of our teachers, support staff, administrators, parents and community we will be successful.

The Premont ISD team is excited about the future for PISD students and staff.  The reorganization of Premont ISD (Endless Opportunities and Exceptional Outcomes) has begun.  Beginning in August, 2017:

  • Premont Early College High School students will be attending classes every Tuesday/Thursday on the campus of Texas A&M University Kingsville (mandatory Grade 8 student/parent meeting on May 23, 2017 beginning at 6pm in the PSS library);
  • Grade six (6) students will be housed at the Premont Secondary campus. The majority of their instruction will be self-contained; however, they will have opportunities for expanded elective options.;
  • Academic block scheduling will be implemented at the secondary campus with the exception of Grade Six (6) students;
  • Accelerated instruction in the content areas of-English I, English II, and Algebra I;
  • All PISD students will begin instruction at 8:30am and dismiss at 4pm;
  • Balanced Literacy reading philosophy implemented in grades K4-5;
  • Nine week grading periods;
  • Demonstration classrooms at both campuses; and
  • Premont ISD/CaCost partnership to serve all three (3) and four (4) year old Premont children.

In addition, the district will be moving forward with the 2017 Capital Improvement Program.  Soon you will begin to see construction on a 21st Century new elementary school.  If construction goes as planned, students will be moving into the new facility in January 2019.

The staff of Premont ISD is always available to help each of you in becoming more involved in your child’s education.  As we set sail on this exciting journey, we will continue to concentrate on the processes that focus on student achievement: evaluating what we have, determining what we can do to improve, and identifying what we need to make those improvements.  I give you my word, as long as I serve as your Superintendent of Schools, we will never put the comfort of adults ahead of the best interests of our children.

Again, thank you for your support.

With care,

Steve
