Superintendent's Message - Back to School
by Steve VanMatre
August 3, 2017
Soon, Premont ISD parents and guardians will be receiving the most important news about how the 2017-2018 school year has begun – whether the other kids are friendly, what the teachers are like, the quality of the lunches served, and whether their classes this year are easier or harder than last year. We hope that the upcoming 2017-2018 school year is the best one ever!
The Premont Independent School District offer complete academic programs with the flexibility to meet your child’s individual needs. The schools cannot do it all, however. Your interest, your involvement, your support, and your parental guidance have never been more important than they are now. You can begin your involvement by studying the Premont ISD student handbook available on August 15 at district-wide registration and emphasizing to your child the importance of being in school every day.
This year, the Premont Independent School District is being joined by Texas A&M University-Kingsville; Coastal Bend College; CaCost -Head Start; Education Service Center, Region 2; Coastal Plains; and the South Texas Curriculum Collaborative in a cooperative effort to improve the quality of education, especially in the basic skills of reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. In addition, the district operates the best Early College High School model in the state of Texas.
We are very proud of what Premont ISD students achieve in our classrooms, and on our playing fields, courts, stages and all areas of extra-curricular activities. Our Premont ISD program is what it is because a staff of dedicated, aspiring men and women have a common goal – to do what is best for students – to never put the comfort of adults ahead of the best interests of our students.
We are pleased to have the Premont community as partners in this new academic year. As the year progresses, and as you become either more informed or more puzzled, we encourage you to call the school and talk with those who might be of help. If your question deals with in-class events, please ask to speak with the teacher. If it pertains with the overall school program, curriculum, or activities, please contact your principal. However, you can always contact me directly at 361.215.3738.
Again, we are honored to serve the Premont community, we want to assure this community we will do our best to help our students experience academic, social, and emotional growth. With your help and cooperation, the 2017-2018 school year will be the best one ever!
